In this post you will learn all about what is analog used for ? Analog means equal or parallel. Analog is a system that uses continuous and variable signals. These signals can be of any type such as voltage signal, sound signal, temperature signal, etc. It represents all these in a continuous form. Analog system is most specifically used in electronic communication and measurement devices. As an example, if we understand analog, then the needles in an analog clock show the time in continuous motion, which is an accurate representation of real time.

Analog signals are signals that vary uniformly and continuously over time. These signals can take numerous values at any time, such as sound waves and radio waves are analog signals.

Examples of analog:

Analog clock:     Analog clocks represent time in continuous motion

Radio:                Traditional AM and FM radios use analog signals

Voltmeter:           A voltmeter measures voltage uniformly and continuously and displays it accurately

Advantages of analog

Simplicity: Analog systems are very easy to make and operate

Continuity: Due to continuity in analog signals, high quality sound and images are easily obtained

Natural Conversion: With the help of analog signals, accurate representation of all types of natural waves and their real and natural quantities is possible only in analog signals, such as electromagnetic waves, magnetic waves, all these are obtained only in analog signals.

Analog vs Digital Signals

Analog and digital signals have their own advantages. At the initial stage when the technology was developed, only analog signals were used in most technologies and the main reason for this was the parallelism in analog signals. Later, digital signals replaced analog signals in many technologies. Although digital signals are a bit expensive in comparison to analog signals, they have better accuracy and less sensitivity to noise.
